Shackleton Association Events 2008

The Shackleton Association will be organising or simply attending the events listed below.

Annual Dinner and AGM 1st and 2nd November 2008 at the Petwood Hotel, Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire. Informal dinner on 31 st October in the Dambusters Bar at the Petwood Hotel for those arriving the day before the Dinner.

The 9th December 2008 will be the 50th Anniversary of the 205 Labuan Shackleton Crash.   The cross which marked the original grave of FS Dancy on an atoll is now hanging in St Eval Church and it was thought appropriate to mark the occasion with a short service.   This will be held at 3pm on Saturday 6th December followed by light refreshments in the church hall.  It is being held on the previous Saturday to make it easier for anyone who would like to attend, amongst whom we hope will be some of the family of FS Dancy.  The service will be taken jointly by the Rector of St Eval and the Venerable Brian Lucas, a past Chaplain-in-Chief.  Brian was the RAF Padre at St Eval in 1972 when the cross was received into the church.

A booklet of the story of the Cross has just been rewritten and is for sale in the church.  Anyone who would like a copy should contact Geoff Lovegrove at gblove@tiscali.co.uk
